The Vallée de Chevreuse is popular with cyclists who enjoy giving their leg muscles a workout in the undulating countryside. But for those of us who are not so sporty, the many hills in our lovely region can be somewhat of an obstacle!

Therefore since September the Regional natural park has made electrically assisted bikes available for hire at the Château de la Madeleine. After several trials (and an ascent of one of the area's steepest hills without once having to get off and push!) a suitable model was chosen. The assistance provided by the bike is gradual so you feel like you are riding a conventional bike on the flat, but with just one flick of a switch a silent engine kicks in as soon as the road begins to climb. With a range of some 70 km the bike will enable you to enjoy some pleasant rides around the park.

Prices: €15 per day or €8 per half day

The Park has also given a grant to four gîte and hotel owners who have acquired electric bikes for their guests to use. The perfect way to discover the Regional natural park at your own pace:
